Community Newsletter Released
Written by SolidStar
In July, we asked the community if they would like an official community newsletter. The answer was loud and clear: it was a big, huge “yes!” Since then, we’ve been working hard to bring you Nintendo news, community news, and articles that will keep you updated with community happenings.
Planning started right after we got our answer. An original design was made by Dries, an SIC member, and then edited some more with opinions inputted from admins.
Finally, prshack made the main pages, and now the newsletter is in its current state.
The first couple of issues will be worked on by the SIC only, but eventually you can expect to be able to submit the pictures that you see all around the page and then the content, or be asked to participate in interviews or provide quotes on topics concerning ACC!
We hope you enjoy the first issue. Look forward to the next!
Do Not Contact List
Written by SolidStar
Recently on the Site Suggestions board, members have been suggesting to stop random giveaway contact, such as birthday greetings and recruitment offerings. The staff and SIC heard the community and instated the Do Not Contact List, for both Giveaways and Service Clubs. The list served its purpose, until giveaway employees and item requesters had a new problem. Item requesters wouldn’t have their requests fulfilled because they were on the DNC list, and employees stated it made their jobs much harder.
“Plain and simple,” says ssaa911, owner of Spencer’s Super Giveaway. “I don’t like the DNC List. It’s a nuisance to greeters and recruiters which are a big part of a giveaway.” He adds a simple solution: “If you don’t like like the PTs, click ‘remove me.’”
Some, on the other hand, think that these are harassment, as they’ve asked multiple times to have the ceased. When this didn’t work, people with this kind of situation were elated to see the DNC List put into effect.
“I think the DNC List is a good idea... it prevents all those ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY NOW ORDER FROM OUR GIVEAWAY’ PTs. I never did like those,” comments walkingonthesun, a user on the DNC List.
It looks like for now the DNC List is here to stay. The staff defends its reason as to creating it by saying, “We took a cue from other giveaways, such as JUG.”
Choosing a Safe Password
Written by cooljdude
Most accounts on ACC that are "hacked" were not really hacked. Their passwords were guessed by someone else. This is why it's vital to choose a secure password on ACC. With a secure password, you make sure nobody else will access your account. Here’s a few tips to choose a password:
Never use "password" as your password. This is one of the worst mistakes you can make. It’s one of the first thing somebody trying to access your account will try.
Do not use your birthday, or name. These are things that people know about you, and so then essentially everyone has your password. Even if you don't give your full name or birthday, someone you know in real life could still access your account.
Do not make your password so hard you can't remember it. It's good to have a secure password, but you don't want something you can't remember.
Do not use your ACC password on other sites. Always use different passwords for each site you go on, this applies everywhere.
Do use numbers and punctuation in addition to letters. A lot of people use numbers, but don't realize you can use !, @, $, etc. in passwords. They add a great amount of security.
Do make your password a healthy length. A 4-character password in most cases is going to be less secure than a 10-letter password.
Now that you know how to choose a password, let's do something else. Logging in from a public computer will put your account at risk. Go to "My Profile", click "Edit," uncheck "Do not automatically log me off". This will log you out automatically once you close ACC.
Keep in mind this article is not the definitive guide on security. There are still other ways people might get in, but that will be a lot less likely if you have a secure password set. This will allow your account to be yours.
ACC Avatar BG Contest
Written by SolidStar
As you may or may not know, ACC recently held an “ACC Avatar Background Contest.” Many entries were received, and it was hard to pick the top ten. So many good entries, and we could only pick 10!? I personally would have liked to pick all of them!
Regardless, the top ten were picked and the voting begun. In the end, though, only one could win, and it was Nyto who won with his lovely background titled Cloudscape. It’s stunning!
Of course, the runner ups were also very very close, with a difference of 3.2% between first and third. Second place goes to Kaijuli with his very nice entry, The City Landscape, and finally phelen with her AC Paperbook Village.
If you want to give your congratulations to the winners, be sure to leave your message at this thread.
Giveaways
Written by iPenguin
The number of threads on the Giveaway Board almost cracks the three hundred mark, and more than fourteen thousand replies have been posted. Every other signature exclaims how proud a user is of their job at a giveaway. Ratings from giveaway deliverers make up half of all ratings. It’s safe to say giveaways are a huge part of Animal Crossing Community.
Looking for the entire GracieGrace furniture set? Or just need a bit of bells to pay of your debt to Nook? Maybe your town is a little drab and lacking hybrids. Head over to the Giveaway Board and scan through four pages of threads advertising free furniture, clothes, hybrids, and well, anything you could possibly want for you and your Animal Crossing town can be yours, absolutely free.
When using giveaway services, remember, giveaways are usually very busy, especially popular ones. Try to respond to any delivery private threads as soon as possible, and if a delivery goes well, rate them well. And if a certain giveaway gives you great service, use them again!
Thanks to giveaways, you can make your Animal Crossing game as unique as you are.
The Pablo-Resetti Controversy
Written by iPenguin
Pablo, also known as the Error Boy, has been the topic of a major controversy in Animal Crossing Community, because of The Site Improvements Committee plans to replace him/with the mole with an anger-management problem, Resetii. But many users don't want change. Their signatures read, “SAVE PABLO!” Some members are completely indifferent. And the rest argue that change is good.
On one end of the spectrum, Pablo can be seen as kind and helpful, while Resetti is in-your-face and pushy.
“Pablo's wayyyyyyyyyyyyy better. Resetti is too mean, which makes ACC seem like a not-so-friendly site.”
On the other hand, change would be interesting.
“I hate Pablo, he just looks at you... saying ‘Haha, you loser.’ I'm sure others feel the same way. Anyways, I like this idea.”
And others...
“This is a total non-issue. I have no opinion. “

Nintendog DLC for EU
Written by SolidStar
Recently, Nintendo released a Nintendogs DLC for European Animal Crossing: Let’s Go to the City. The Nintendogs will have four different breeds, and each breed will be distributed over a period between October 7th and November 3rd.
The DLC seems to only be for Europe so far, but I think we can expect to see a similar one for the Americas and Japan sometime soon.
