A Series' Future

Written by cooljdude

When you think of loveable franchises, Animal Crossing probably comes up high on the list. It’s an original series that’s totally family friendly but is addicting and appealing to all ages. Animal Crossing has appeared on the Nintendo 64 (in Japan), Gamecube, Nintendo DS, and the Wii. By the Wii version, however, people began to notice a disturbing pattern. The game never seemed to change. Sure, a few new features were scattered in here and there, but for the most part, for nearly 10 years, the graphics and gameplay had been the exact same. In fact, AC:CF brought upon a new feature that was hated by almost everyone – the annoying "Animal Tracks" feature that turned your town from a living forest to a desert if you ran too much.
To save Animal Crossing, something fresh is needed. This is a huge possibility and very likely with Animal Crossing for the 3DS. It will be on a fresh platform. Every screenshot we’ve seen so far looks different and visually superior to the previous games. Imagine the possibilities the 3DS could bring – shopping for items in 3D, watching a 3D performance of K.K. Slider, etc. If Nintendo can manage to adapt to the new canvas in front of them (the 3DS) and change the series while keeping its charm, the series we all know and love may be renewed and saved. Animal Crossing is a series nobody wants to lose, because it’s a game that families and friends can all get into and work together on. Long live Animal Crossing.

E3 Announcements Shed Light Upon Next Iteration of Animal Crossing

Written by Dimentio95

Many members of Animal Crossing Community were expecting a rumor for a new Animal Crossing 3DS to come true, only to have been dissapointed while watching the Nintendo E3 conference. It wasn't until an E3 website update that people realized an animal crossing was indeed in the works for the 3DS.From the seven screenshots given on the website and developers at the conference, many rumors began popping up. Speculation that the image would closely resemble the Wii in definition was closely right, along with the stereoscopic 3D that aided in this newly redesigned game. The screenshots revealed a possible new sandy sideways beach or riverbed along with the new landscaping such as cliffs, new customizable shorts and skirts, possibly some new neighbors according to IGN.com, and some new outdoor features such as a bench and lamppost, as well as new tree design and flower design. We can also expect new architecture to become available from a house in a screenshot as well, not resembling any building in the previous three iterations of the game.
From some of the crticism of repeating too many factors of Wild World to City Folk, Nintendo is trying to step up Animal Crossing with fresh, new details, one such rumor claiming your character can become the mayor of a town, rather than a resident, and other rumors such as the return of the police station, which we do not have enough infromation to interpret at this time. More information on this next game is expected to come soon!

Making Animal Crossing Fun Again

Remember when you first got Animal Crossing and you were discovering your town and all about it and how fun it was? Many people played every day, including me. It seemed Animal Crossing would always be a great game.
But then for most people, it lost its importance. Many people stopped playing and quit the game for a while. This includes all games, and many people are on Animal Crossing Community more than Animal Crossing by far. Here are 5 tips to help you start playing again.

Taking the Role of Tortimer?

Written by 100

As most of ACC knows by now, there is a new Animal Crossing game in the works for Nintendo's new handheld system, the Nintendo 3DS. Screenshots were released at E3, but sadly, little information is known about the game. However: a rumor started circulating soon after Nintendo's E3 press conference. The rumor states that the player takes on the role of mayor for the new town they move into.
Here is a brief description taken from the Official Nintendo Magazine's website:

"Details are scarce at the moment but we can confirm that you'll be playing as the mayor of your town. With the help of the townsfolk and 'one eager secretary' it'll be your job to make the town a better place to live."

Although they've stated that it has been confirmed, many things can change and this still is classified as a rumor, and it is currently nothing more than that.

Kid Icarus Is Uprising to 3DS

Written by gamefreak089

As most of you know, Nintendo will be releasing a new hand-held; the 3DS. With the 3DS, there will be a whole new line of games for it. One of the most anticipated games for the new 3DS is "Kid Icarus: Uprising". This old favorite will be made specifically for the 3DS with both flying and ground sequences. The title was one of the biggest reveals at Nintendo's E3 conference, and is expected to be a monster title when the hand-held is released.
In Uprising, Pit (main hero) will be teaming up with Palutena, the goddess of Light, who gives him the miracle of flight for limited stretches. With this new gift, Pit will be soaring through the sky shooting down enemies and rivals along the way. Besides flying, the ground combat is highly awaited too. After flying high, Pit continues for an epic ground-based battle with Medusa's underworld army.
Kid Icarus was originally released for Nintendo's NES in 1987. Since then, Pit fans all over have been raving about him and hoping for a new game to come. The famous winged kid finally made a re-appearance in Nintendo's "Super Smash Brothers: Brawl" back in 2008. That might have indicated a return from Kid Icarus but didn't prove true until Uprising was revealed at E3. Although there is no set release date, Iwata said the game is "coming soon".

Piecing It All Together

For many, the 3DS’ ability to display glasses-free 3D images is amazing. We’re so accustomed to going to movie theatres and wearing glasses. Even the latest and greatest HD 3DTVs need glasses to accomplish the 3D effect. How then, can the 3DS do what movies and TVs can’t?
The 3DS produces nothing but a fancy optical illusion. The top screen is the 3D one, and it uses what’s called a parallax barrier. I know that probably doesn’t help explain it at all, so let me go deeper here. As you may know, the little dots you see on electronic displays are called pixels. Each pixel displays a color, and combined they form an image. The parallax barrier on the screen uses tiny slits to force your eyes to see different pixels. This makes your right eye see one image on your screen, and your left eye see another. This causes the illusion. Your brain gets both images, and has no choice but to combine them, which is what you see. When your brain combines the images, you get the 3D effect.
The problem with this technology is that you have to be at a certain angle for it to work. If your eyes don’t get the precise images correctly, your 3D experience turns into a blurry mess. This is why it’s better suited for smaller screens. However, since the 3DS will be used on-the-go, there is an option to turn off the 3D effect to go into traditional 2D gaming. 3D is still an emerging thing, and while the 3DS may not be perfect at it, it’s the best we’ve seen in a portable yet. Initial reports are saying it works great. One thing’s for sure though – if any gaming company is going to make 3D work, it will be Nintendo.

What the 3DS Brings

Written by SolidStar

The Nintendo 3DS was first announced in a Japanese press conference last March. Not many details were given except that it would be 3D and not require glasses. Between March and June there was a lot of speculation. Would it be more powerful than the Wii? How would it work? The price? Most importantly, what would the 3D aspect bring to new games?
The new 3DS has the ability to take 3D photos using two separate lenses on the outside of the device, has a slew of motion sensors, and even a slidepad. From the pictures at engadget.com, you can see that the 3D isn't 3D per say. It's important to realize that the 3DS will not be like watching James Cameron's Avatar. It will simulate the 3D by adjusting the picture depending on the user's orientation through a combination of different technologies.
The 3DS from the press pictures appears to have great graphics that are on par with the Wii, if not more powerful, in accordance to the rumors. However, there are several features yet to be seen, but it seems to be a great successor to the DS Lite and DSi.
